Kleine Zeitung is an Austrian regional newspaper headquartered in Graz, which has played an important role in the region since its founding in 1904. Our challenge was to rethink content and department structure to create a digital experience that makes browsing easy and fun. We also wanted to enable journalists to tell more engaging stories by providing them with a variety of templates for different articles types.
The Website
Simplifying the department structure to the three sections News, Life and Sport has enabled us to clearly distinguish these three main entrances visually from each other and to use different narrative speeds that make each of the three pages feel unique. News inspires with a clear overview of the political and social events of the day, Life impresses with opulent images and Sport offers the necessary detail through results, lists and statistics of your favorite sport.
The News App
In contrast to the website, the news app of Kleine Zeitung focuses much more on a personalizable offer. Users can decide for themselves which topics should be displayed to them. There is also more curation from the editorial team in the form of the straightforward full-screen swipe format in the Today section. Here, users can swipe through the most important news of the day in form of articles, podcasts and videos.
